Dan Eaton, founding attorney
Minnesota State Bar Association Real Property Specialist Super Lawyers Rising Star

The attorney behind the firm

Dan Eaton has represented businesses and individuals in real estate, business and litigation matters since 2009, with a record in real estate fraud, construction disputes, business conflicts and RESPA violations. The Minnesota State Bar Association certified him as a Real Property Specialist in 2014, a credential fewer than 3% of Minnesota attorneys hold.

He founded Waypoint Law PLLC in January 2023 after nearly 14 years at a Minneapolis real estate and litigation firm, and built Real Estate by Attorney so clients could get brokerage and counsel from the same desk. Outside the practice he serves on the community board for YMCA Camp du Nord and spends his time canoeing in the Boundary Waters.

We contracted with him to help us sell our house independently with no agent, a so called FSBO. He helped us understand the process and fill out forms. Everything worked out well. I would recommend him to anyone who wants to try selling property without a realtor.

Questions people ask before they call

If yours is not here, the first conversation is free and there is no obligation after it.

Ask us directly
When should I bring in a real estate lawyer? +

Before you sign any purchase agreement or commercial lease. We review contracts, negotiate terms and protect your position on residential purchases, commercial acquisitions and multi family investments, from title analysis through closing.

What do I need to know when buying or selling a home? +

Sellers must disclose specific information before closing, including title status, boundary issues and the age of the roof. Buyers run into title defects, association covenants, zoning rules and easements that can delay or kill a closing. Most of it is fixable when someone catches it early.

Can you help with a commercial or multi family investment? +

Yes. We negotiate lease terms, review purchase agreements, structure syndication deals and handle investor disputes, along with diligence reviews, financing arrangements and zoning compliance for office, retail and multi family property.

Do I still need an agent if I work with you? +

No. The brokerage and the legal work sit in the same firm, which is what keeps the cost down and removes the dual agency conflict. You get one team representing your side of the transaction.
